Character Basics
Character name: Tyleet
Character Journal: Without_Recognition
Canon: Elfquest
Canon Point: Just after she, Scouter, and Dewshine formed a three-mating and exchanged soul names because she was carrying Scouter's cub.
Age: Depending on how you count it, she is either over 500 by a bit, or over 10,500 by a bit. But Wolfriders rarely count time the way we do, and she little knows nor cares more than that she is an adult.

Canon Character Information
Appearance: Tyleet is tall for her people, which means she is about the height of your average 14 year old. She has long tapered elven ears and four fingered hands. There is something wolfish about her face and eyes, though her hair and coloration tends more towards fox.

History:
elfquest.com timeline - Starting from 2 years after dissaperance, until about 7 years after reappearance. So about 500 years and change awake, about 10,500 and change alive.

Tyleet was an unusual cub even before she was born. For her group of Elves, the Wolfriders, cubs are only born through recognition - a meeting of souls that cannot be chosen or denied that leads to cubs with special gifts. Sometimes the parents become lifemates, sometimes not. The pack is small enough that they will always be close. There are other elves - the Go-Backs and the Sun Folk - who do not need recognition to breed, and don't even have soul names any more. But for the Wolfriders, breeding is currently impossible without Recognition. (The are arguments and hints that some Wolfriders have bred without recognition with elves from other tribes, but I have not found confirmation in canon.)

Tyleet was born to Wolfrider parents who desperately wanted recognition, tried and failed to force it, and finally with the help of an insanely strong healer, and a sacred location, was able to conceive her without recognition. Tyleet herself later has a son, also without recognition, but I'll get to that.

So Tyleet was born to parents that chose to have her, fought to have her, making her different than any other Wolfrider in several generations. As with most cubs, the whole pack had a hand in raising her, and she grew sweet and kind.

The Chief's family went missing while her mother was pregnant with her, and she became a salve to Cutter, her presence helping him through the pain of missing his own cubs, his mate, and his brother in all but blood. Cubs are rare, to the Wolfriders, so she was a joy. So too was Venka, the cub Kahvi brought when she found the hidden Holt, looking for Rayek. Venka was born of Rayek and Khavi, raised to be a tool for her mother's revenge on her sire, but Khavi lacked the patience to wait with the Wolfriders for Rayek to reappear, and left the cub with them. Tyleet and Venka grew up as friends, and Venka became almost chillingly powerful, but terribly sweet and kind.

After Tyleet had been an adult for sometime, she too had a cub, without recognition. Though hers was done in a way no Elf would have ever considered, they didn't even have a word for it. She adopted her son. Normally this was not a thing for the Elves, because a cub was a treasure for the whole community, every band of elves shared that in common, so a cub without parents was still not an orphan, because he or she always had family on hand. Skywise who was born after his father died, whose mother died birthing him, was a prime example of just that.

But Tyleet... she managed to find a way to do the unimagined. She adopted a son, and not just any cub... a human whelp. She had been hunting for capnuts on the forest floor at dawn when she had heard an infant crying. She found a human baby with an odd red birthmark over one eye, abandoned. Tyleet was sure this had to be a mistake, something was very wrong. So she bundled the baby up and with the aid of her wolf, Patience, she snuck to the human village, scent matched the baby to the hut if the parents, and left the baby for the parents to find, sure she had done a good thing, even if humans hated and feared her kind.

But the next dawn, she heard a baby crying again, and she spied on the sound and found a human woman tying the baby to a tree. The couple went as though they were going to kill the infant, but couldn't do it, and left him there for the wolves.

Pike wrote a song about Tyleet once. "Try, just try to deny her anything." She somehow managed to convince Cutter and the others to let her keep the cub. The Elves might have hated humans, but cubs are rare and precious. They let her raise him.

Patch grew up well. They learned secret whistles and calls, since he could not send, and he learned the ways of the woods, all the lore of the Wolfriders, and grew as one of them.

Until adolescence. He became interested in the opposite gender, but his first attempts at a physical relationship was a disaster. He ran away to try and rejoin the human tribe. That... was also a disaster. But in this he was stubborn. He brought gifts of meat to the human pack, and finally was rewarded with a boon. They told him why he had been abandoned to die as a cub. The mark over his eye, for which Tyleet had named him Patch.

He used berries to dye his face all over red, and kept bringing them food. Eventually he was allowed to share their fire, eventually he became one of them. Tyleet watched secretly from the trees as her son, her tall one, fell in love, took a mate, became a chief, and sired pups of his own. And all his life, until he was old and feeble, he kept their secrets. As an elder, he spoke of his childhood, but thankfully none believed him. The night he died came with a sudden burst of strength, and he made it all the way to the bramble wall. The humans gave chase, and Tyleet whistled their secret signal for "Stay still, freeze!" and after all these years, he obeyed.

The round-ears pulled him free of the bramble patch, but he was too far gone. They left him in the woods. His own cubs and grand cubs. When the other tall ones had left, Tyleet slipped down to the forest floor to spend her last moments with her cub, felled by that which had never taken a Wolfrider - old age. They were mortal, unlike the other Elves, but their lifespan measured ever so much longer than a human's.

When the time became too much for Cutter to bear, he did a very un-Wolfrider like thing. He chose to sleep in the preserver's webs until those who were taken from him were returned. Tyleet joined him and the rest of the tribe.

Tyleet kept Patch with her, in her heart, for the rest of her life. When Leetah, Suntop, Ember, Timain, and Skywise returned to them, she shared her story with them. When humans became an issue again, Tyleet secretly started meeting with a woodsman, a human who destroyed trees, sure that she could learn from him. And she did, and he from her. She was learning the tall ones' tongue, so that all her tribe could learn and understand what the round eared five fingered ones were saying and planning.

It was while she was working with the woodsman that Scouter found her, ready to drag her home, sure that she was too close to Tall Ones (she was) and that she was going to get herself killed (She wasn't). While he tried to get her away, their eyes met and Recognition hit them like a skyfire felled tree. They knew enough to know it for what it was, and they were tribe-mates and friends, and they knew what fighting Recognition did to an Elf. They didn't fight it. They were nervous to speak with Scouter's life mate, after, but Dewshine was thrilled for them, and where Scouter was a sire to her cub despite the fact that her cub was born of her recognition with Tyldak, she would happily be another mother for their cub, and they formed a three-mating. (Please note, Elven pregnancies last 2 years....)

Personality:
http://elfquest.com/tyleet/

Tyleet is a sweetheart. That her wolf's name is Patience says it all, really. She is patient herself, willing to take each day as it comes. Unlike most Wolfriders, since she was raised while Cutter was counting time, she has learned to look to the future. To plan in a way that goes against the Way of the Wolfriders. But she is quiet, and she is subtle, and few actually know that she has this tendency. Venka, Scouter, Dewshine, and probably her parents.

To most, she follows the Way, taking each day like a lazy summer night. She speaks little of the past, like a good Wolfrider, but it is clear that she carries it with her in a way that others like Strongbow never would. She remembers Patch, long after he is dead, and those memories shape her choices going forward.

Unlike most of her people, Tyleet is willing to tentatively offer a small fledgling trust to see if it will grow. She is willing to risk herself to help the pack learn and prepare for the future, even though preparing for the future as far out as she does is not the Way. She is brave to do it yes (Moonshade would call her foolish and irresponsible) but she also trusts in a way even Cutter does not. Having raised Patch, having seen that he grew to be a good man, for all he was a tall one means that she doesn't see all tall ones as threats, as foes.

She knows that Cutter agrees, else he would not have let her raise her son, and she knows some of the tales about the Hong'tay'sho, the humans who once revered the Elves of Blue Mountain, but to her these are not just dreamberry tales shared over a howl about things that are remarkable because they are so unbelievable, they are examples. If there can be selfish Elves like Khavi and Rayek, and evil Elves like Winnowill, why could there not be good Humans like Oblar the Mountain Tall and Nona? Like Patch.

It all gives her a sort of serenity, a peaceful calm that is noticed by the others.

Skywise: "Who wouldn't feel peaceful near you, Tyleet? You're so calm and gentle."
Tyleet: "Well, thanks to Leetah, I had a wonderful start! Heh heh... Never knowing a moment's want, truly, I'm spoiled beyond hope."

And that is actually how she sees herself, how she discusses how she got what she wanted from Cutter as a cub. She sees herself as spoiled and privileged, because the pack doted on her, because she was allowed her son, because she grew up in a time when food wasn't as scarce, when the war with the tall ones was at an ebb. Others, she knew, like Cutter, grew up in harder times. So she sees herself as hopelessly spoiled, but she tries to use that to help the pack, and to help others.

Much is said about a Wolfrider by the wolves they bond with. Cutter and Strongbow both tend to wind up with alpha personality males of strength and savagery. Ember's Choplicker is playful and a bit silly. And Tyleet... has Patience. "She's a bit dull as wolves go. I'm often teased about it," she tells Skywise after the long sleep. She is smiling as she says it, as though it was said and taken with love. Everything she does and says is infused with love, hope, or both. There is a joy in her that could not be tamed or calmed.

Even as she tells the tale of her son, her tale speaks of how wonderful the others in her pack are; for accepting him, for the help they give him, for all they are willing to teach him. She feels it is selfish, that they are doing it all for her sake, but she still weaves into her story the love of pack.

Her heart broke in some ways, when Patch did what he had to do, ultimately, to be accepted by the tall ones. He had to slice the stain from his skin. And she watched, and will never forget. "I have to wonder... does he think of us - of me - and all we taught him of self love, self honor?"

And yet... even with that pain... she never stopped loving. Her heart healed in time, with the Way, and with the pack, and when she went to see him again... he was chief among the human tribe. She was proud of him, and reckless as she laughed.

Reckless is a good word for how some of her packmates see her bravery and trust. And well, her being her. She hunts for capnuts on the ground in daylight even though the pack's safety comes from staying to the trees and moving at night. (“In the trees, as you please. On the ground, not a sound.” That was Cutter's rule for living so close to the humans.) She takes in Patch. She watches over him when he lives with the tall ones. She saves him when he would lead them to the pack. And, much to Scouter's chagrin, she befriends a human woodsman to learn to speak like a round ear from him. Reckless, yes. Feckless, never.

Ultimately, for a character we see little of, there is a lot of depth to Tyleet. She was raised by Redlance and Nightfall, as well as the rest of the pack. Redlance is sweet and kind and patient, Nightfall is the warrior who understands that what is fought for is love, first last and always. She took wisdom from Moonshade, if not caution, she learned archery from Strongbow, she learned to live with joy from Pike, to care for others and protect from Cutter. From every life that touched hers, she learned. For every life she touched, she met with love.

Powers/Abilities/Talents:
As she was not born of recognition, she is fairly average for a Wolfrider, meaning other than mental communication, most of what she can do is trained over the centuries, or from the elf and wolf blood, rather than magic that makes her unique.
So she can:
Communicate mentally- She can only do this with people who have the inate ability themselves. She cannot "Send" to a base human. She can Send to a wolf, or a "near-wolf" which means pretty much any canine. Not that they always understand. Few can respond.
She has a Soulname - this is a strength and weakness both. It is a strength in that the exchange of soulnames can forge a powerful bond extending the range of mental communication, letting the people who exchange them feel what the other feels, and that if eyes meet eyes and soulnames are exchanged without will or intent, there is recognition - the need to pair in a way that will produce a strong and gifted offspring. But there is no choice. Recognition can neither be forced, nor denied.
Move silently through the woods - All wolfriders learn this as cubs and practice every day. She can walk on the slenderest branch without stirring a leaf. She can leap from tree to tree without making a sound. In the forest, there are no ninjas better than a Wolfrider.
Wolf Friend - she can bond with a wolf, and give it the ability to communicate mentally, and added intelligence. The wolves of the Pack are stronger than the wild wolves, smarter, and more loyal. Her bond wolf that she is entering with is Patience. As long as Patience lives, it is very unlikely that she will take another.
Forest Lore - her father is a plant shaper, her mother a warrior. She knows what plants can be eaten safely, what is a poison, what is for tending wounds, and what is a weapon. New plants on a new world will take some figuring out, but similarities will help her get to the right answers. She also knows how to cache a kill, skin an animal, make tools from what one finds in the woods, sleep in the trees without fear of falling, hunt successfully, and track. She has learned how to skin, and she has seen Moonshade do tanning work, she can work wood and bone into tools with practice, not magic.
Wolf Blood - All Wolfriders (save Skywise and Windkin and any Wolfrider adopted in from another tribe like Leetah and Aroree) have wolf blood in their veins. It takes away their immortality (though they are still disturbingly long lived compared to humans, disturbingly short lived compared to all the other Elves) but gives them a sense for nature, an understanding of animals, heightened sense of smell, sharper eyesight especially at night, strong instincts, and a bit of a feral quality to them. Any Wolfrider, even one as gentle as Tyleet can and will fight to protect the pack.
Elf Blood - makes her long lived, beautiful, able to connect to the Palace when it is near and to feel the tug of it when it is within the same half of the world as she is. It makes her harder to kill, and means that she knows better than to kill another elf (Also knowing what happened to Strongbow when he did, to save his cub, helps). She has four fingers, over large eyes, and pointed ears. Because of the wolf she is short rather than tall, but like all elves that have not been maimed, she is beautiful just by virtue of being an elf.
Weapons - She has been trained in most of the Wolfrider's weapons including the long bow, the recurved bow, lances, spears, daggers for throwing and daggers for slicing.

AU/CR AU Addendum: N/A

What 4 items would you like your character too have with them on the island during their stay?
Her wolf, Patience
Her bow and Quiver of arrows
A dagger
a pouch of food including a small amount of meat, capnuts, and dreamberries - a hallucinogenic berry that aids in mental communication, and can be made into a juice or a wine.

Samples -
First Person:
[Tyleet looked at the odd device, her brow puckered in thought as she tried to figure it out. She reached forward with a four fingered hand and tapped it, starting the feed, without realizing that was what she did. She leaned closer to it and sniffed at it. It was unlike anything she had ever smelled before.]

[The small elf dropped down from her branch, to land beside her wolf, Patience, then pulled the device down to let the wolf sniff it, filling the screen for a moment with wolf nose, and then wolf tongue.]

"You don't know what it is, either then?" [She asked her wolf friend. Getting a huff that was the equivalent of a sigh she shoved the thing in her pouch, unaware it was broadcasting, unaware what broadcasting even was. She looked around the area again, then climbed on the back of her Wolf.]

"Let us find dinner, my friend. It is nearly dawn. We can hunt for the pack tomorrow night."

Finally, out of the 4 words, pick one: Chimes, lake, gravel, or sun? Lake. She has no clue what chimes or gravel is, and as a nocturnal creature she'd hardly choose sun.
